Fremontodendron californicum, flannelbush. A native plant that bears 2-inch yellow flowers. The leaves are hairy and can cause irritation, so plant this one where you won't rub against it.

Feijoa sellowiana, pineapple guava. Thought of as a tropical plant, but we get a large crop of guavas every year in Shingle Springs. The flower petals are also edible.
