  • I was taking pictures of hornworms when a housefly came and attacked a smaller hornworm.  This is a great picture as the fly is assessing the situation, about to come in for another bite.

  • I was taking pictures of hornworms when a housefly came and attacked a smaller hornworm.  This picture's a little out of focus, but you can see the defensive posture the caterpillar adopted.  It also whipped and thrashed around trying to avoid and drive off the fly.  It appeared to get bitten a few times and, after the fly left, it licked the weeping wounds.
